Overview
Chirang district represents the cultural heart of western Bodoland, where the Bodo community's heritage blends with the influences of neighboring cultures. The district headquarters, Kajalgaon, serves as a base for exploring the region's natural and cultural attractions. The district is bounded by the Sankosh River to the west (marking the border with West Bengal) and contains significant portions of the Ripu-Chirang Reserve Forests. These forests, part of the Manas ecosystem, support diverse wildlife including elephants, golden langurs, and numerous bird species. Chirang offers visitors an authentic Bodo cultural experience through its traditional villages, weaving centers, and festivals. The district is known for preserving traditional music and dance forms, and visitors can witness cultural performances during local festivals. The scenic Ultapani area is also located in this district.
