Overview
Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across 26.22 sq km in Udalguri district, is a vital wildlife corridor connecting the forests of Assam with those of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. The sanctuary is named after the Bornadi River, which flows through this pristine habitat. The sanctuary serves as a crucial elephant corridor, with herds of Asian elephants migrating through its forests seasonally. The dense tropical forests support a rich biodiversity including gaur (Indian bison), wild boar, barking deer, and numerous bird species. The sanctuary is also home to the endangered pygmy hog and hispid hare in its grassland areas. For visitors, Bornadi offers a more off-the-beaten-path wildlife experience compared to the larger parks. Nature walks, bird watching, and peaceful forest retreats are the primary attractions. The sanctuary is an excellent destination for those seeking solitude in nature.
